As the tourism board says 'a town of striking beauty, whose name resounds with a feeling of holiness and brightness: a sacred wood once lay at its gates and the intense sunlight enfolded its smooth slopes yesterday as it does today.'
Today, it is an agricultural center and produces fabulous extra virgin olive oil, sausages, fennel, rocket, pecorino cheese and the DOC wine 'Cacc'è mmitte'.
The grapes from the latter come from the slopes around the nearby village of Troia which should not be missed for its Romanesque cathedral, perhaps the finest in Puglia.
