The Strada del Vino Prosecco was the first of its kind in Italy.
It is 47 km long and winds around the 'Colli di Conegliano', 'del Feletto', 'del Quartier del Piave' and 'di Valdobbiadene'.
Surprisingly, it has only been 100 years that the vineyards in this part of Treviso have been producing the white.
There are three types of Prosecco.
The first is Prosecco Tranquillo,
a white especially suitable
with a heavy antipasti.
The second, Prosecco Spumante
is the fizzy version and ideal
as an aperitif served cool
at 6° at any time.
Lastly, but not least, the
'Prosseco frizzante dolce'
best served at 8°-10° as a
dessert wine.
Today, Prosecco is the second spumante of Italy. The first, we hazard a guess, must be Asti.
Look out for the ' Botteghe del Vino Autorizzate' symbol which guarantees the authenticity of the wine.
Perhaps it should be classed as number one, as the word Prosecco is now synonymous
with any white fizzy wine.
It almost defines the category.
