L'Aperegina is an organic agriturisimo in Abruzzo right in the heart of the Gran Sasso National Park. As well offering a genuine rural stay in the region, owners Marino and Elide also propose traditional home cooking lessons for their guests. 

Commercially, L'Aperegina produces wonderful honey, but the rest of the farm is dedicated to local produce and the demonstration of the richness of the gastronomic traditions of this unspoilt territory. Do request a cooking classes as part of your stay.

An orchard provides an abundance of cherries, prunes, apples, figs, and walnuts. Guests are invited to get involved in the preparation of jams, sauces and liquors, not just from these fruit but also mulberries, blackberries, currants, quince, sour cherries, grapes, rose-hip, ratafia, fennel, cornelian berries, juniper berries and many more.

Pork is cured on site for the preparation of ham (prosciutto), salami, bacon and sausages which are further seasoned from the herbs grown in a dedicated plot of land. Expect also to see how bread and home made pasta are produced, as well as pizza and barbecued steak in the wood burning oven. Cheese making is also an extremently important part of the local culture and you will see close up how the fabulous pecorinno is made and stored.

Sustainable Tourism  

Abruzzo is a largely undiscovered region for tourists and still holds to its ancient traditions. Not far from the agriturismo you will find the River Tirino, one of the most pristine in Italy. So clean, in fact, you can even enjoy meals of fresh water river shrimps with filtered drinking water pulled straight from the current.

Marino and Elide make great efforts to ensure their farm uses as many natural resources as is possible. For example, 90% of rain water is collected and they are about to install 50mq solar pannelling to provide hot water. All waste is differentiated for recycling and no chemical fertilizers are used on the crops or in the orchard, jut locally made compost.
