White Truffle Festival, Sant'Angelo in Vado

Truffle Fair of Sant'Angelo in Vado October every year is when the small town of Sant'Angelo in Vado in the province of Pesaro Urbino, Le Marche, looks forward to its biggest appointment of the year - the National White truffle Exhibition or 'Mostra Nazionale del Tartufo Bianco'.

Not surprising when you consider that the town is situated close to the borders of both Tuscany and Umbria, each famous truffle producing zones.

The history of Sant'Angelo in Vado dates back to 1000 B.C., the late Bronze Age, which makes the town older than Rome.

Truffles were certainly around at the time but the festival is approaching its 50th year.

Held in the historical centre it is much more than a simple market for truffles and visitors can explore the old wine cantine or cellars, the archaeological zone of Domus Romana and even take part in a fishing tournment in the local Lago dell’Aiolina.

Do not miss out on the local Vino Santo di Sant’Angelo and other typical products of the area such as tagliatelle al tartufo, cappelletti al cappone and pheasant.

Also to look out for is the weekly 'Fiera dei Cani da Tartufo' or 'Truffle Hunting Dog market', every Monday.

The patron Saint of Sant'Angelo in Vado is San Michele Arcangelo and he is celebrated on the 29 September.
