Ascoli Piceno and Quintana Tournament

Published in Le Marche Itineraries
Media
You great a great sense of territory when you go to Ascoli Piceno in Le Marche. By this we mean their territory, the land of the Piceni, a regional Italian power with a 2000 year historical continuity. In fact, the city rebelled against the Romans, repulsed Alaric and his Barbarians, drove away the Saracens in the 10th century and became a free city state from the 12th to 15th centuries. As they say in the brochure to the city 'Ascoli Piceno' has no pretensions of being a great monumental city, but it certainly offers its visitors architecture, sculpture and paintings…

Montappone Hat Museum

Published in Le Marche Itineraries
The tradition of hat making in this hill top town grew out of a local legend passed on from generation to generation. It evolved out of the story of a young peasant who wanted to marry the daughter of the local king. Only possessing the grain in his field he was initially rebuffed. Yet, inspired by the criss cross flying of three birds as the sun set, he set about making a hat weaving the stems of his crop. Impressed by his dexterity the King accepted the proposal on condition he could wear the hat at his daughter's wedding. Needless…

Riviera del Conero and Beaches

Published in Le Marche Itineraries
The Riviera del Conero is the closest resort area to Ancona in Le Marche. What is distinctive about the area is the huge Monte Conero headland dominating the coastline in a stretch of the Adriatic sea flat for miles either way. The area, and especially the Monte Conero, is therefore an unusual microclimate of beaches, reefs, coves and cliffs. It is an area of uncontaminated beauty. From the towns of Numana and Camerano there are also day trips to bays inaccessible by land, two examples being 'Gabiani' (Seagulls) and 'Due Sorelle' (Two Sisters).
