Mushrooms from AlbaretoPorcini mushrooms are interesting things. They tend to be bought either dry in vacuum packets in supermarkets or fresh in traditional markets. Knowing what to do with them is another matter.

Then it's a good thing that September sees the national 'Fiera del Fungo Porcino' or porcini mushroom fair in Albareto, province of Parma.

The event attracts some of Italy's finest chefs who reveal how to be creative with these wonderful 'kings of the table'.

There are certain tricks you can learn which are no doubt demonstrated at the event.

Unfortunately, the dedicated website is only in Italian and, therefore, so is the fantastic recipe section divided by antipasti, primi and secondi.

Over 20 'ristoranti' join in the mushroom fun and if you find yourself in Albareto any other time of the year, then why not check out the full list which needs no translation.
