What started as the annual World Pizza Championships in 1990 has now gots its own Olympics. The idea being that Italy could demonstrate that even if it does not have the biggest pizzas in the world, then at least it most certainly makes the best.
It is a massive affair when you consider that the original competition was held inside a pizzeria in Meldola, province of Forlì.
Just like the summer and winter Olympics the celebration starts with an operning ceremony and a procession of all the contestants.
The event will be held every fours years. The likely hosts in 2011 will be the United States, Japan, Spain or France in that order of probability.
So who will win? We think the North American pizzas will find the judging particularly severe, but we tip Scotland.

The first Pizza Olympics or 'Le Olimpiadi della Pizza took place from the 26-29 March 2007. The event was organised in response to the ever increasing world dominance of the American pizza restaurant chains such as Pizza Hut, Domino's Pizza and Papa John and was held in Salsomaggiore Terme in the province of Parma.
