'Flavours of Middle Europe' is our translation of the name of an event which takes place at the end of September every year in Gorizia .

To give it its full title, the 'Gusti di frontiera'. Le frontiere del gusto' is a celebration of the exchange of culinary influences between the neighbouring territories of Austria, Slovenia, Veneto, Friuli Venezia Giulia and the Balkans.

It is referred to as the 'eleganza della contaminazione' or elegance of contamination', which looses something in English.

Above all, a demonstration that cultural exchange and meeting need not make us loose our own identity, but enhance it and create something new. To make the point, even France had its own space in the last edition nominated the ‘bistrot d’eccezione’.

Interestingly, Gorizia was the last residence for the Bourbons and visitors could sample oysters and champagne, while listening to Django Reinhardt and Edith Piaf. Nevertheless, visitors to Gorizia during the exhibition will find the historical center full of food, music from mid European culture.

One thing that cannot be watered down is best of the Friuli wines and in particular the whites of Gorizia.
