Skiing in the Carnia Mountains

The mountainous territory of Carnia is the part of Friuli which straddles the border between Austria and Slovenia. According to the local tourism authorities the territory offers a crowd free winter snow experience with low ski pass prices, guaranteed snow due to its unique geography and thermal baths to ease the muscles.

DOWNHILL SKIING

The main centres are Forni di Sopra, Ravascletto and Sauris with the best runs stretching form Varmòst to Forni di Sopra and Zoncolan to Ravascletto. For beginners try the pistes of Sauris.

CROSS COUNTRY SKIING

Every level of difficulty can be found. The most well known routes are at Laghetti di Paluzza, where the 'Centro Nazionale di Sci di Fondo is located. A circuit is also floodlit for night skiing. Interesting pistes are also at Piani di Luzza, Forni Avoltri, Cima Corso ad Ampezzo, Porteal Lauco, Tredolo, Forni di Sotto, Sella Chianzutan, Verzegnis, Pian di Casa a Prato Carnico.

OFF PISTE SKIING

3 to discover. Casera Razzo (m. 1.745) near with a route to Monte Bivera (m. 2.338). Tagliamento di Forni di Sopra to Monte Pramaggiore (m. 2.479) and finally Forni Avoltri linked to Monte Coglians (m. 2.780).
