Who makes the best Risotto alla Milanese in Italy? Well now we know thanks to the initiative "GIALLO MILANO" which is a competition to find out.
The event was developed to promote and save the gastronomic traditions of the city of Milan and the territory 'ambrosiana'.
Over 50 restaurants in Milan and the province of Milano participate.
Food experts visited each tasting the house risotto to whittle the list down to six finalists who were then invited to cook off for the title of best risotto alla Milanese.
The jury is typically composed of notable names and journalists from such circles as Cucina Italiana, Slow Food, Touring Club, Club Papillon, Gambero Rosso, Corriere della Sera, Io Cucino, A Tavola, Cucina Italiana, Accademia della Cucina Italiana, Artú, Cucchiaio d'Argento and Libero.
We though tthe initiative had only lasted a couple of years, but cropped up again in 2012, so fantastic risotto alla Milanese has been and will no doubt be with us for much longer.
Giallo Milano also seems to be a play on words with 'giallo' or yellow a reference to both the typical colour of a fine risotto alla Milanese and the popular pocket sized books in Italy which typically feature mystery stories and Agatha Christie style plots.
So who will win the best risotto this year?
