Musical Itineraries in Milan

This is a route celebrating Milan's place as perhaps Italy's first city of music. In fact, the city has an ancient tradition of Ambrosian rites and chants since the 4th century.It's not just about the Teatro alla Scala but thirteen additional locations from concert halls to museums, coffee houses and shops.

 

The routes starts at Piazza Buonarroti and the Casa di Riposo per Musicisti Giuseppe Verdi and ends at the Castello Sforzesco and the Civic Museum of Musical Instruments. Along the way there's the following:

Liberia dello Spettacolo - via Terraggio 11 Small bookstore specialising in the performing arts, out of print editions, old opera liberettos

Teatro dal Verme - via San Giovanni sul Muro 2 Hosts the Founation for Musical Afternoons in addition to the large concert hall

Chiesa di S.Marco - piazza S.Marco Verdi directed the first performance of his requiem here in 1874

Museo Teatrale alla Scala - piazza della Scala Museum for the great theater, includes costumes used by Callas, Tebaldi and Nureyev

Casa Toscanini - via Durini 20 Arturo Toscanini lived in this 18th century palazzo from 1909 to 1957.

Chiesa di S.Maria della Passione - via Bellin 2 A rare example of twin organs
