White truffle route in lower Piemonte

The Alba white truffle route in lower Piemonte is an itinerary through the provinces of Alessandria, Asti and Cuneo. These are best zones for finding the prized white truffle of Piedmont, the Magnatum Pico Tuber.

In fact, its not all about Alba, where the National White Truffle Fair is held every October. When you see the intensive wine production dominating the hills near Alba, you realise they have to get their truffles from somewhere else.

The towns of reference in a clockwise direction from Alba are Vezza d'Alba, Montechiaro, Murisengo, Moncalvo, S.Sebastiano Curone, Acqui Terme and Canelli. Each has its own truffle event or white truffle fair and we counted over 25 smaller annual provincial fairs.

Of them all we like the look of the Crumiri biscuit and truffle fair in Casale Monferrato on the last Sunday of November in the province of Alessandria.

The Truffle Study National Centre organizes truffle searches for individuals or groups of up to 25 people. The hunts last for 2 hours, with an expert territory guide, searcher and dog.

They are authentic experiences little changed over time and even just watching the gestures of the dog handler is an education.
