Furore is located in a splendid oasis of peace along the Amalfi coast overlooking the Bay of “Capo di Conca”.
The centre of Amalfi is 7 kilometres away, Positano 40 minutes and wonderful Ravello just 35 minutes.
Furore itself has the honour of being located by the only fjord in Italy from where the only annual coastal high diving championships are held (view the video).
Interestingly, it is not really a place, but a series of small hamlets dotted above a natural fjord which protects the ancient fishing village at it's mouth.
The luxuriant vegetation and setting lends the whole spot to a wonderfully mysterious atmosphere.

The spot is full of local tales such as the strange creatures called 'Janare'.
The myth of “Janare” derives from Diana, goddess of hunting and magic. They were similar to common fairies who flew at night with their chests covered with a magical ointment.
They possessed various powers such as the ability to cause storms, to transform themselves into animals or to cure any kind of disease with herbs.
Tradition says that the Janare met on the beach of the Fjord, coming from several parts of the country through ancient paths.
These paths in and around Furore can still be followed and the full list is as follows. All have incredibly atmospheric names such as: 'Abu Tabela', 'Agave in Flower', 'Black Beard', 'Crow's Nest', 'Crazy Bats' and 'The Fishing Fox'.
If you read Italian the website of the comune is the best reference for tales of pirates, brigands and the mythical Terra Furoris who have all terrorized the local inhabitants.
