An ancient Sardinian proverb states 'Chie hat pane, mai no morit' or 'with bread you will never die' and, as you can expect it plays a fundamental part in the history, culture and traditions of the island. Pecorino Cheese of Sardinia

The 'Latteria Sociale Cooperativa' of Nuoro is located towards the north east of the island. It was formed in 1938 when a group of local breeders decided to take on the process of transformation and commercialization of their milk products and is perhaps typical of the many pecorino cheese makers on the island. Today the co-operative employs around 10 regular workers and 12 seasonal employees who between then turn out 9,000 quintals of cheese each year. 80% of this amount consists of 'Percorino Romano' while 20% consists of other typical Sardinian cheese and Pecorino Crotonese. Food from the Gennargentu

Visitors to the island in February will surely see some snow if they head to the wild interior of Sardinia, called the Gennargentu. We would describe the Gennargentu in winter as 'brutally beautiful' especially when covered in a thin layer of the white stuff. Pockets of untouched countryside are also present, that's really untouched, ever.
