Egadi Islands

For the summer visitors may want to consider holidaying on the Egadi islands. They are Favignana, Levanzo and Marettimo.

They can be reached in a few minutes from Trapani yet offer a detached and luxuriant contrast to the white, parched salt plains.

The crystal clear sea is phenomenal and perfect for scuba diving. It was here that the Romans and Carthaginians fought the historic naval battle in 241 BC.

For a secluded and quiet beach, try Cala Rossa, Cala Azzurra, Grotta Perciata and Cala Rotonda.

Favignana is the biggest and is home to the largest tuna fishing station in Sicily (tuna festival is in May).

Marettimo has Monte Falcone at almost 700 meters as well as a marine reserve and is the remotest and wildest with caves and mountainous paths.

Levanzo is perhaps the least interesting but has been inhabited for over 7000 years.

For us, do visit Marettimo.
