Islands of Alicudi and Filicudi

Alicudi & Filicudi sound like a Mesopotamian double act, but are two of the smaller islands of the Aeolian Archipelago. Alicudi is the most westerly of the group of islands and is an extinct volcano, which makes it a lot less exciting to live there than Stromboli.

Not being trashed by molten lava every three years means a wonderful uncontaminated zone of beaches, grottoes, paths and sea continually attracts the tourists, especially such sights as the Harp String and Timpone felle Femmine.

At least on the eastern side as the western coast of the island takes after Filicudi. The larger brother is surrounded by rocks with the huge natural obelisk 'Canna' at 85 meters in height being the most impressive. But the small Elephant island and Fortune Cliffs are worth a pop.

To enjoy the spledours of Filicudi you have to get close to the water and the Grotto of Bue Marino or 'Cave of the Sea Ox' with its fantastic refracting light show.
