Annual Italy Events
- The Fat Ox (Festa del bue grasso)
- 31 Dec
- Traditional Folklore Festivals
The Fat Ox (bue grasso) procession takes place on New Year's Eve - The animal is decorated from head to tail with flowers and ribbons and taken by parade to the Piazza San Petronio. Just at midnight, cannons are fired from the hillsides, church bells are all set in motion, everyone lights a candle or holds a bic over their head and a fireworks display lights up the sky. Finally, a special lottery is held in which the winner walks home with the Ox.

Annual Events in Italy
In this section we are compiling a list of Italy events which occur more or less on the same day on an annual basis.
They have been grouped by theme and behind each link is a description of the event, its location, as well as external links to help you plan further.
You can also find an event from the calendar below.
The list is by no means exhaustive, but they are events we know and recommend. With special thanks also to Dan Hostetler for giving us permission to adapt some of his original texts.
