Annual Italy Events
Event
- Title:
- Rome Marathon
- When:
- 18 Mar
- Where:
- Rome
- Category:
- Sports and Outdoors
Description
At least 10,000 runners representing a minimum of 50 nations will participate in this full blown 42 km event which blows past some of the most famous Roman ruins and sights of this ancient city. The event will start at the Forum, pass by the capital's mosque and synagogue, the Vatican, Olympic Stadium and the Baths of Caracalla before ending in Saint Peter's Square so that the winner will receive the Pope's blessing on the first day of the new millenium. This fact alone will bring the biggest names in running to Rome for this race. It's anticipated that a minimum of 50,000 casual runners will participate in a half-marathon which follows the same course but ends earlier. Tourists, observers and non-marathoners beware because the city streets will be so closed off and barricaded for the marathon that public transportation and taxis cannot operate. In addition to the sold out status of the city due to millenium-thrill-seekers, the city will become even further paralyzed for public transport and you'll have a hard time getting around or to the airport unless you make extraordinary arrangements (helicopter or something). Annual Events in Italy
In this section we are compiling a list of Italy events which occur more or less on the same day on an annual basis. They have been grouped by theme and behind each link is a description of the event, its location, as well as external links to help you plan further.
The list is by no means exhaustive, but they are events we know and recommend. With special thanks also to Dan Hostetler for giving us permission to adapt some of his original texts.
