Title:
Festival dei Due Mondi
When:
25 Jun
Where:
Spoleto
Category:
Music and Theater

Description

The Spoleto Festival is officially called the Festival dei Due Mondi or 'Two Worlds' because it was originally twinned with an identical festival held in Charleston, South Carolina. It was founded in 1958 by the late Gian Carlo Mennotti and still has the objective of encouraging cultural exchanges through art and music. On an international level, this festival is one of the most prestigious events of the year and takes place in the stunning hilltop castled city of Spoleto that's located in the heart of Italy's most magical countryside of Umbria.

The program features performances in the fields of opera, dance, prose, visual arts and cinema, as well as classical concerts. Most of the major events are held in the main Piazza del Duomo But some smaller chamber music and solo concerts take place outside of the city in ancient churches of the Valnerina. It is usually held over the last week of June and the first two weeks of July. Tickets are on sale from the central ticket office in Piazza della Libertà from 10am to 11pm every day of the festival. -
