Description
Ariccia is a special town famous for its roasted pigs, fragrant with rosemary, garlic and salt. Porchetta is an archetypal festival food all over Italy, and if few are actually roasted right on the spot, this incredible little village boasts special roasting ovens devoted soley to cooking the pigs. It takes place on the first Sunday of September and has done since 1950. Perhaps not the best time to be eating roast pork, but this is the pig capital of Italy although don't tell the folks in Bologna.

Annual Events in Italy
In this section we are compiling a list of Italy events which occur more or less on the same day on an annual basis. They have been grouped by theme and behind each link is a description of the event, its location, as well as external links to help you plan further.
The list is by no means exhaustive, but they are events we know and recommend. With special thanks also to Dan Hostetler for giving us permission to adapt some of his original texts.
