This week tour of Abruzzo is offered by Abruzzo Cibus based in the province of Chieti.

As well as this seven day tour to discover the food and history of the region, the company also offers one day tours and cooking lessons, short breaks and specialised courses for professional chefs.

DAY 1 - Free Airport Pick-Up and Welcome Dinner

Arrrive in Pescara or Rome and then accommodation for the whole week in Palazzo Tour d’Eau, Carunchio, Cocktail welcome and a briefing of the tour followed by welcome dinner.

DAY 2 - Carunchio, Abruzzese Dishes, Local Salame Maker and Olive Oil

After a short morning walk around the old-town, the first cooking class explores the basic ingredients of traditional Abruzzo cuisine on the theme of quick and healthy homemade meals. Lunch on your tasty creations in traditional Italian style, slowly and in good company! Afternoon visit to local salami production plant and see how Abruzzo's salami differs from the rest. Then visit to an organic olive oil press and explanation of the traditional way of making the real extra virgin olive oil.

DAY 3 - Homemade Pasta, Agnone, Cheese Plant, Bell Foundry

Learn all the tricks for making pasta alla chitarra, gnocchi, cavatelli, stuffed pasta etc. After lunch, visit to Agnone in the region of Molise where you can watch family production of mozzarella, burrata and caciocavallo cheeses. Agnone is famous for its quality cheese, but also the historic bell foundry which still makes church bells manually for the Vatican.

DAY 4 - Vasto, Lanciano, Trabocco fishing house, Shopping, Seafood dinner

Starts with a visit to the trabocchi fishing houses, a unique piece of art that is unique to a small strip of the Adriatic coastline. Then a visit to an organic soap factory which has adopted an old recipe to make soap with olive oil, goat’s milk and donkey milk. Lunch at the best restaurant in town serving a seafood feast. After lunch some window shopping in Vasto. Dinner at the Palazzo Tour d'Eau.

DAY 5 - Art of Preservation and Liqueurs

Learn how to preserve fruits and vegetables in the Italian way using oil and vinegar. Taste and find out how these ingredients are a big part of the Abruzzese cuisine. Then, how to make limoncello and tasting a variety of liqueurs made from local ingredients, such as the famous amaro Abruzzese and Centerba. Afternoon walk around town.

DAY 6 - Desserts, Sommelier

Learn how to make mouth watering desserts and pair them with the liqueurs made the previous day. Almond biscotti, bocconotto and much more. After lunch, a sommelier class to learn the basic skills of how to sample and pair wines.

DAY 7 - Last day

Back to airport or hotel if you are continuing your trip. Last minute shopping, postcards or other requests can be fit in according to schedules.

OPTIONAL Excursion Day

If you are in a group then consider a trip to Pompei and the Amalfi Coast and a guided tour of the ruins and coast. Alternatively, sightseeing in Rome and shopping.
