Hedonistic Hiking guides you on this 8 day tour from Parma, through Tuscany and on to the Cinque Terre to discover Prosciutto, Parmesan, Pilgrims and Poets. An unusual walking route today, but one which was the beaten track in medieval times linking the cities of Emilia Romagna, Tuscany and Liguria.

Parma, Tuscany & the Cinque Terre Itinerary

DAY 1:

From Parma train station to lunch in Parma followed by a guided visit of the city's beautiful Baptistery. Then south to Borgo Casale, a luxury hotel nestled in the Romagnola hills and dinner.

DAY 2:

Visit a parmesan cheese maker then drive high into the hills on the Liguria and Emilia Romagna border.  Afternoon visit to Borgotaro, a Slow Food town to see the Porcini Mushroom fair followed by dinner in an organic farm.

DAY 3:

From Passo della Cisa follow the wooded ancient Via Francigena passing stone bridges and villages to Pontremoli. Next three nights stay in beautiful 16th century agriturismo to explore the Lunigiana.

DAY 4:

Walk with views of the Apennine peaks and explore Pontremoli, a strategic town along the Via Francigena.   Visit the local museum with a fascinating collection of menhirs.    Dinner in a local restaurant.

DAY 5:

From Pontremoli to a high pass with spectacular mountain views of the border with Emilia Romagna. Afternoon descent through beech woods and mountain streams.    Dinner in a traditional trattoria.

DAY 6:

Coastal walk to to Fosdinovo and the castle of the Malaspina family. Visit to a small wine producer and walk on to Sarzana.   Drive to Lerici for two nights by the sea in this charming town.

DAY 7:

Free day and optional boat cruise across the Gulf of Poets to the Cinque Terre, Portovenere and the island of Palmaria.    Fabulous seafood farewell dinner.

DAY 8: Return to Pisa Airport
