The Jewels of Piedmont Itinerary
DAY 1:
Meet at Turin Central Station or Turin Airport before heading to Saluzzo and a stop to visit Racconigi, the summer palace of the Royal House of Savoy. Next 4 nights in Antico Podere Propano with first evening exploring the medieval town and dinner in local restaurant.
DAY 2:
Morning walk along quiet country lanes and farm tracks to Cistercian abbey at Staffarda. Picnic lunch then drive to Manta to see the 13th century castle.
DAY 3:
Drive to the Po valley, then on foot along trails, mountain refuges to the source of the river. Dinner at a farm in the hills near Saluzzo.
DAY 4:
Drive to Colle di Sampeyre at 2285m before descending to 15th century church of Elva and the pretty Maira Valley. Fabulous dinner at the Abbey of Staffarda.
DAY 5:
Short drive to medieval Cherasco. Continue to La Morra for lunch in an award-winning restaurant with views over the vineyards. Next 3 nights at charming Corte Gondina hotel in La Morra. Evening with local winemaker.
DAY 6:
From La Morra to the villages of Vergne and Novello and the vineyards of the village of Barolo. Visit the cellars of one of the local producers and wine tasting. For the autumn trip, truffle hunting also!
DAY 7:
From the Alta Langhe, a panoramic walk before lunch near the town of Monforte d'Alba at a local farm producing wine and cheeses. Afternoon visit of Alba and dinner in a local Slow Food restaurant.
DAY 8: Return to Turin.
