Inside Venice & Veneto

Food of Treviso province

The province of Treviso is home to such wonderfully named towns as Borso del Grappa, Zero Branco, Asolo and Riese Pio X.

The food map map produced by the Treviso tourism authorities is easy to follow with symbols highlighting where and what are typical products produced .

The include fine wines, salami, roast duck, kiwi fruit, cherries, radicchio, kebabs, pheasant, asparagus and cheese etc.

It all suggests suggest that they eat well in this part of Italy.

The cheeses to look out for are as famous as any in Italy and all are available in supermarkets up and down the country.

The DOC are Montasio, Asiago, Grana Padano, Provolone Val Padana and a favorite of ours, the pungent Taleggio.

The flatland also produces a DOC cheese called Casatella. It is a type of stracchino; soft, fresh and used as a topping for toast or fresh bread.
