Festa del Torrone in Cremona

Cremona is famous for its mustard of course, but perhaps it should be more famous for its sweet Christmas nougart called torrone.

TorroneThe annual Festa del Torrone takes place in the third week of November and is the ideal festive antipasti.

The historical center of Cremona is full of stands celebrating the sticky sweet.

Not just torrone from Cremona, but other versions from all over Italy.

Most torrone is made from honey, vanilla, eggs, almonds and toasted hazelnuts and Cremona is Italy's capital.

The event is full of processions, spectacles and many free hapenings, not least for the kids.

The dedicated website of Festa del Torrone has many illustrative photos.

A photographic competition open to all on the theme "Torrone identità, territorio ed innovazione" runs for 2009.

All participants are invited to submit a image which represents the culture, territory and innovation around the product.

The festival is completed by a Gala Dinner.

A recent menu included risotto alla verza, pesto Franciacorta Satèn Millesimato, sturgeon with beans and lentils, pear salad and chocolate torrone paté.
