Meet your English-speaking guide in your hotel and depart for the Langhe area in the southern part of Piedmont, famous for white truffles and some of the most sought-after red wines in Italy, i.e. Barolo and Barbaresco.
Arrival in Grinzane Cavour where you will visit the impressive XIII century castle which also hosts the Cavour Regional Wine Shop and the ethnographic museum.
Departure for Barolo, the town where the “king of wines” was first produced in the XIX century.
Visit of the historic cellars of a renowned Barolo producer, and learn the techniques employed in the production of this refined garnet red-coloured wine. Wine-tasting will follow the visit.
Short walk up to the Falletti di Barolo castle erected in the X century as a bastion against invasions, and later home the French Marquise Juliette Colbert, the lady who created Barolo wine. Possibility of visiting the Regional Enoteca of Barolo inside the castle which exhibits a wide range of the best Barolos produced in the region.
Transfer to the town of Alba, once called the “One Hundred Towers Town”, famous for the International White Truffle Fair which occurs each year in October.
Guided tour of the historic centre, free time for some shopping along the Via Maestra (main street).
Lunch at leisure in the city centre.
Final stop will be the village of Barbaresco with the imposing squared tower built in the late XI century to protect the village from foreign invaders.
Visit of a local Barbaresco producer, an elegant red wine made out of the same Nebbiolo grapes which give the Barolo, followed by wine tasting.
Walk in the tiny historic centre where you may visit the Regional Wine Shop of Barbaresco located in the deconsecrated church of San Donato.
Back to hotel.
