The Italian Alps Itinerary

DAY 1:

Meet in Turin and transfer to Pont St Martin, the gateway to the Aosta Valley. By foot along the ancient route of the Roman armies to the town of Bard. Accommodation in Hotel Ad Gallias for 4 nights. Welcome drink and dinner.

DAY 2:

Drive up the valley to Cervinia and cable car up above the tree line. Walk back through pastures, stopping for picnic lunch and the village of Chamois. Afternoon visit to fortress of Bard.    Visit to small producer of Lardo d'Arnad to learn about this local delicacy.    Dinner in local restaurant.

DAY 3:

The Champorcher valley carved out by glaciers and a hike along the route used by Victor Emmanuel II when hunting in the mountains.  Dinner at the hotel.

DAY 4:

Along the Gressoney valley with its Walser culture and characteristic stone and wood houses. Lunch in mountain refuge. Afternoon descent to Gressoney St Jean and visit to the castle of Queen Margherite of Savoy.    Dinner in a rustic restaurant in the hills.

DAY 5:

Departure from Bard continuing up the valley to Aosta. Afternoon drive to Cogne, the gateway to the Grand Paradiso National Park. Accommodation in family run Hotel Bellevue.   Light dinner in the open air and optional evening walk.

DAY 6:

Pretty walk through the hamlets around Cogne with panoramic views of the Mont Blanc and Gran Paradiso snow-capped mountains.   Dinner of local specialties in nearby restauarant.

DAY 7:

Walk in village of Gimillan before following the river valley, passing shepherds’ huts and tiny hamlets accessible only by foot. Picnic by a pristine mountain lake before descending once again to Gimillan. Final dinner at Michelin star restaurant.

DAY 8:

Return to Turin
