8 DAY CULINARY TOUR DETAILS
This 8 day culinary tour is available from April to September.
Day One
Settle into your accommodations in the heart of Tropea. In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner at one of our favorite local restaurants.
Day Two
Guided walk around Tropea meeting our local friends and storeowners along the way to taste such locally produced delicacies like the 'marmalata di cipolla' (the famous red-onion jam), salamis and the renowned 'Nduja' from the nearby village of Spilinga. Afternoon cooking class with Marianna. After cooking your typical Calabrese feast, you can sit down and savor the results with more local wines, dolce (dessert) and homemade liqueurs such as Limoncello and Licorizia.
Day Three
Guided tour of the pretty fishing town of Pizzo Calabro, including a visit to the fascinating Piede di Grotta – a 'church' carved out of the coastal rock and containing some eccentric life size sculptures. Lunch at restaurant of award-winning chef. Stop at a cafe for 'Tartufo di Pizzo', a famous ice cream dessert created right here in Pizzo. Dinner will be at our favorite pizzeria in the heart of Tropea.
Day Four
Visit to Caria, a small town close to Tropea. We will stay in his rustic farm and learn how to make bread and ‘pignata’- slowly cooked butter beans in terra cotta. After lunch, we will visit the viewing point at Capo Vaticano and take in the magnificent views towards Sicily and the Aeolian islands. Dinner will be held in a noted restaurant in the historic center of Tropea
Day Five
A relaxing day on one of our remote beaches 20 minutes from Tropea. We will provide a lunch of local Panini and drinks.
Day Six
Morning visit to noted vineyard that produces some of the finest wines of Calabria and wine tasting beforea traditional lunch at one of our favorite family run trattorias. Spend the rest of your evening at your leisure.
Day Seven
Fishing with Francesco from the port at Tropea to meet Francesco, our fisherman. He will teach you his fishing methods, or you can take a swim in the surrounding crystal waters and gaze at the houses embedded on the cliffs of Tropea. Alternatively Francesco can sail the yacht along the coast to Capo Vaticano where you can snorkel around the many magical hidden grottos. Farewell cooking class and farewell meal to follow with wine included.
Day Eight
Transfer to airport or train station
