This special wine tour in Piemonte by Tasting Tours takes the visitor to some of the best barolo producing wineries in the region. Piedmont is a wine region rich in history yet there are viticulture and enology methods have only taken root over the past two decades.
Nebbiolo is the great grape of the Piedmont region where it makes a wine of prodigious quality that is worshipped by wine lovers around the globe – Barolo. It is stubbornly insistent on the right place and most would agree that despite efforts to cultivate it elsewhere, Piedmont is the only place where it feels truly at home.
Despite its relative comfort among the beautiful hills and villages of the region, it is a demanding grape that requires extremely refined viticulture and enology to extract its best features and mould it into a great wine.
GRAND BAROLO WINE TOUR
The Grand Barolo Wine Tour will be focused on the different techniques used by the several wine-makers of the region, each one giving a different wine.
You will discover 3 different wineries - small and medium-big producers, modernists and traditionalists – chosen according to the selection carried out by Italian Gambero Rosso guidebook (“Three Cups” award) and important wine journalists, like Robert Parker (in his book The World’s Greatest Wine Estates). Wineries are located in the most popular Barolo villages, e.g. Barolo, La Morra, Castiglione Falletto, Monforte d’Alba, etc.
Each visit will be followed by a wine-tasting so that you may compare the different flavours and choose your favourite!
Your tour guide will spend the whole day with you giving information not only about the wineries and wines, but also about the history, art and food tradition of the region. On the way from one winery to the other, we may stop to admire some interesting historic highlights, i.e. castles, towers, Regional Enotecas, etc. Lunch is at leisure in one of the villages making up the Barolo district or in Alba.
