The Ristorante Monumento is located by the old medieval borgo of Ostia Antica a short walk from the famous Roman port ruins. The restaurant is named from the memorial stone "Bread and Work" laid in 1904 near the original trattoria. The stone remembers those who lost their lives working on the "Agro Romano" land drainage project from the end of the 19th century.

Of the many who arrived from Ravenna to the Roman countryside two woman called Maria Gordini and Mamma Nerina devoted their time to baking bread and transforming what was a simple hunters lodge into a place where the wood was always crackling in the fireplace and game and home-made tagliatelle was always ready

Federico Fellini, born in Rimini, used to enjoy the delicious cappelletti prepared by Nerina while chatting with her in their local dialect.

ON THE MENU

The speciality of the house is Cappelletti Romagnoli which has been the signature dish since the restaurant opened in 1884.

Today, it is fresh fish and home made pasta which make up the fine menu with 'Ravioli al Mare' our favourite.

Do consider the Monumento Restaurant for special family events. Baptisms, holy communions, birthdays and marriages etc. can all be catered for.

The restaurant may also be able to recreate dishes you may have always wanted to try or you have heard about elsewhere eg. from your family history.
