Famous people from Molise

Molise may be Italy's newest and least visited region, but this ancient land is home to some of the most important prehistoric finds in the whole of Europe.

So, a lot of people have passed through the area and we have identified 3 international personalities whose origins can be traced to the region.

They are:

Don Delillo -

Delillo's parents came from Montagano and their son's famous novels were finally translated into Italian in the late 1980's.

Robert De Niro -

De Niro's family came from Ferrazzano, a small town near Campobasso. Apparently, De Niro is not exactly the family name, due to an error on arrival in the States as Giovanni 'Di Niro' and Angelina Mercurio sought a new life. The family remained in New York.

Mario Lanza -

Lanza's father transferred to the States from Filignano before he was 18 years old. Mario's talent perhaps came from his grandfather. The great singer is remembered every year at the festival in his honour at Filignano.
