Ciociaria in Lazio
The Ciociaria is an area of cool, wooded hills, fresh water streams and a rich, religious history in the province of Frosinone.
Perhaps the main reason why visitors come here is for the famous Abbey of Monte Cassino.
It is impossible not to be impressed by the reconstruction of the whole complex after allied bombing lowered the height of the mountain significantly during the Second World War.
If you do go in summer, please be aware that you will not be allowed access dressed in shorts or strappy tops. Do cover up.
The other main centers of the Ciociaria are Frosinone, the spa town of Fiuggi, delightful Sora, Alatri with its 6th century BC walls, Anagni, Veroli, Ferentino, Arpino and Atina in the heart of the Comino Valley.
