MID WINTER EVENTS IN SALENTO
The Saint Lucia Fair featuring traditional nativity scenes and La Focara of Saint Antony until the end of January. The localities involved include Scorrano, Cutrofiano, Tricase, Galatone, Specchia, Tiggiano, Surano & Spongano and look out for the Presepe of Sulphur in the 'Grotta Sulfurea' in Santa Cesarea Terme.
MARCH - SAINT JOSEPH FESTIVITY
On the 19'h of March, the "mattre" great tables are prepared along the street and the square near the Church, with typical dishes. www.comunesanmarzano.ta.it
MARCH/APRIL - 'NZEGNE' FLAGS PARADE
On Easter Monday, and on the first Saturday after Easter, in Carovigno takes place the colorful flag parade of the 'nzegne' near the Sanctuary of Belvedere.
APRIL - LA PROCESSIONE DEI MISTERI
The Thursday of Easter week sees ‘La Processione dei Misteri’ in Taranto, Puglia. It is the culmination of three different ritual processions, the others being ‘dei penitenti’ and ‘dell’Addolorata’ which originate from the late 16th century. They are accompanied by the sound of the characteristic ‘troccolo’.
MAY (first week) - FESTIVAL OF SAN NICOLA
San Nicola is the Saint who protects sailors or ‘navigators’ as well as being the patron Saint of Bari in Puglia. In the city over 500 participants recreate the arrival of his remains brought here by mariners.
JULY AND AUGUST - FESTIVAL DELLA VALLE D’ITRIA
This event first took place in Puglia 1975 and showcases new and rarely heard pieces of classical and modern music. www.festivaldellavalleditria.it
