San Marino museum of emigration
San Marino is a small place and perhaps that's why so many Sammarinese decided to up sticks and head to the New World.
According to the records the majority headed to Detroit in the U.S. and the industrial heartland of America. The contrast must have been tremendous.
The 'Museo dell'Emigrante' or Museum of Emigration gives a fantastic insight into this period in the Republic's history.
On display are residences permits, booklets of the Association of Maimed and Disabled Workers and other documents all collected in San Marino and the 24 Sammarinese communities abroad.
The Museum is housed in the Antico Monastero di Santa Chiara
There are many events throughout the year which display the culture of the Republic for all to see.
Nevertheless look out for the 'Medieval Days' in mid July every year or try to get there on the following dates;
April 1st and October 1st for the Investiture of 'Captain's Regent' and 25th March for the anniversary of the Arengo.
Finally, the 'Palio della Balestra Antica' on September 3rd for the celebration of the Republic's foundation.
