Piazzo Azienda Agricola, Alba Fine wines from Piemonte
The origins of Armando Piazzo's family lie on the hills of the Upper Langa, where the vines continue to be cultivated despite the many difficulties and changes that have taken place.
His forefathers came down from San Bovo di Castino to the gentler hills of the Barbaresco wine growing area just outside Alba.
They settled in San Rocco Seno dElivio, a name whose origins are blurred in history and legend.
Publio Elvio Pertinace, a Roman emperor of nearly two thousand years ago, was apparantly born here.
In the mid 1960's Armando Piazzo understood that Barbaresco would make a name for itself and he decided to invest in the Nebbiolo grape variety which produces the wine.
Today, the estate has been extended to over 150 acres of vinyards surrounding the winery that stands on the border between Alba and Treiso, as well as at Novello in the Barolo wine growing area and Mango in the hills of Moscato.
Each year the vineyards of Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, Barbera, Moscato Bianco and Chardonnay produce Barbaresco, Barolo, Nebbiolo d'Alba, Barbera d'Alba, Doceltto a'Alba and Moscato a'Asti, as well as three wines under the Langhe denomination - Dolcetto, Nebbiolo and Chardonnay.
